Dr. Donald Helme

Don Helme is an associate professor in the Department of Communication and the Gifford Blyton Endowed Professor within the University of Kentucky College of Communication & Information. He serves as Principal Investigator on a project examining health communication campaign messaging strategies for encouraging proper disposal of unused or expired prescription medicines (specifically opioid analgesics) and for reducing non-medical prescription drug use in Appalachia.
HEALing Communities Study role: Helme worked with researchers and organizational partners to oversee the development and implementation of the health communication strategy by defining metrics for measuring communications reach, partnering with community representatives to develop messages that will resonate within participating communities and identifying appropriate media venues for health communication advertising promoting the project.
